Seachem PhosBond is a revolutionary hybrid filtration media that combines the rapid phosphate-binding power of Aluminum Oxide ($Al_2O_3$) with the high-capacity endurance of Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO). This synergistic blend is designed to quickly and permanently remove phosphates ($PO_4$) and silicates from both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. By utilizing two distinct types of adsorbers, PhosBond provides a more comprehensive solution for controlling nuisance algae and improving coral health than single-component media.
PhosBond is engineered to provide the "best of both worlds" in chemical filtration, ensuring your water remains lean and clear.
Dual-Action Adsorption: Combines the high surface area of aluminum oxide for rapid initial removal with the long-term binding capacity of iron oxide.
Permanent Binding: Once phosphates and silicates are adsorbed, they are chemically locked into the media and will not leach back into the water, even if the media becomes exhausted.
High Porosity: The spherical shape and porous structure allow for maximum water contact and flow, preventing the "clumping" issues often associated with standard GFO.
Algae Control: By rapidly stripping the water of limiting nutrients like phosphate, PhosBond helps starve hair algae, cyano, and diatoms.
Reef Safe: Completely safe for all marine fish, corals, and invertebrates, as well as sensitive freshwater plants and shrimp.
How much Seachem PhosBond should I use? Use 60 mL (1/4 cup) for every 200 L (50 US gallons) of saltwater or 400 L (100 US gallons) of freshwater. Leave the product in place for 4 days, then test phosphate levels. If levels are still above 0.02 mg/L, replace the media.
Do I need to rinse PhosBond before use? Yes. Like most chemical media, PhosBond should be rinsed in freshwater to remove any fine dust generated during shipping.
Can I use this in a media reactor? Yes, PhosBond works excellently in a media reactor, canister filter, or even in a high-flow area of a sump when placed in a fine-mesh filter bag.
Seachem PhosGuard: The pure aluminum oxide alternative for extremely rapid phosphate spikes.
Seachem PhosNet: The pure GFO alternative for those who prefer the highest possible long-term phosphate capacity.
Seachem The Bag: A 180-micron mesh filter bag that is perfectly sized to hold PhosBond without letting the media escape into your pump.
